Don’t leave money on the table when negotiating. Focus on the three KNOWS:
Know How Much?
Use tools like Glassdoor, Salary.com, and Fishbowl to research salary ranges for the position you’re applying for in your specific location. Understanding the market rate for your role will give you a solid foundation to negotiate from and help you make a compelling case for the highest salary possible.
Know When?
Timing is everything in salary negotiations. After receiving an offer, take the time to evaluate it carefully. By this stage, the company has invested significant time and resources in finding the right candidate, and they’ve chosen you as their top pick. This is when you have leverage. Negotiate based on your research. If the salary request is too high, they’ll simply let you know it’s outside their budget.
Know What Else?
Remember that salary isn’t the only aspect of your negotiable compensation package. Consider other factors that might be important to you, such as:
✅Work-from-home options
✅Signing bonuses
✅Additional time off or vacation days
✅Professional certifications and training
✅Job title
By focusing on these three key areas—knowing how much to ask for, when to negotiate, and what additional benefits you can request—you can ensure that you’re making the most of your offer and not leaving money or perks on the table
