Speak the Language of Industry
If your résumé currently starts with something like:
“Seasoned government program manager with 10 years of experience supporting anti-trafficking programs…”
Try reframing it as:
“Strategic program manager with expertise in data-driven decision-making, stakeholder engagement, and cross-functional project delivery.”
This version shifts the focus from what you did to how you did it. It highlights your leadership, your strategic thinking, your operational impact, all in a language that resonates across the private sector.
Your Mission-Driven Work Still Matters
You don’t need to “start over” or abandon your public service roots.
You just need to reposition your value so it’s readable, relatable, and relevant to hiring managers outside of government.
